Tesla has certainly made its mark on the automotive world with its first super successful and super sexy Model S. But even those of us who are fans are very eager to see something different from the carmaker. Well it looks like Tesla is not going to keep us waiting much longer. Reports have been coming out that indicate Tesla will soon be debuting its all new Model 3 as it is apparently going to be called. Say this for Tesla, they keep it quite simple when it comes to the names for their vehicles. No fancy, futuristic names for marketing purposes. Tesla prefers to let their cars do all the talking for them.
The Model 3 is expected to be introduced and put on the market as early as March, so its coming quite soon. The Model 3 is supposed to be the electric car that is more affordable for those of us not ready or able to shell out the $70,000 t0 $80,000 needed to get behind the wheel of your own Model S. Expect the Model 3 to be priced in the $35,000 range for the base car. Base of course to Tesla though is likely to be be quite nice. Certainly $35,000 will make the Tesla much more accessible and I expect to see a lot more of the brand on the road. This is especially true when you consider the other cars in that price range that Tesla will now be able to compete with. Making it even more competitive is the fact that since the vehicle is electric, there will also be government incentives that will factor into the price. The Tesla brand is strong, amazingly so when you consider it hasn’t been around as long as the BMW, Mercedes and Lexus names it competed with for the Model S, and against whom it fared quite well. There are a lot more potential buyers in the middle $30,000 market.
By the way don’t expect the car to be on the road in March. Pre-orders are taking place then, with a limited reveal of the car. The Model 3 won’t be seen on your streets until 2017.
