Indian Motorcycles is a truly special company. As part of their comeback, this season Indian has been launching several new bikes. But one of the most exciting unveilings recently from the iconic American motorcycle brand was a bike born out of a collaboration between the company and one of the most exciting custom bike designers in the country.
Indian paired up with builder Jeb Scolman, who has built some of the most exciting custom motorcycles ever seen, and together they came up with what they are calling The Black Bullet Scout. Personally I think they could have just left the last word, Scout, out of the name, and The Black Bullet would have been just perfect. But hey, who really cares what it is called? The bike is absolutely fabulous and it does indeed look like a bullet, giving the impression of speed and danger even when it is sitting still on its kickstand.
The reason though Scout is in the name of the bike is that Indian provided Scolman with a 1200cc Scout motor and said go do your thing. That’s all Scolman needed to hear. What he did was probably a bit surprising, he decided to build a bike that looked like a rocket, or bullet I suppose, and designed it very much to harken to those 1950s and 60s land speed bikes that were put through their paces in the desert. He put a fork mounted bullet-shaped fairing on, added clip-ons and put rear-sets directly onto the rear axle. If you’re going to ride a bullet, you have to be able to lay down on it.
The result is a bike that is begging to be put to the test. I don’t know if it will actually be able to break any records. But who cares when something like this has to just be a blast giving it a go. Way to go Indian and Mr. Scolman. You nailed this one.
