We recently talked about the teaser that Jeep released of what was potentially going to be a Jeep Wrangler with the 707hp 6.2L supercharged V8 out of the mighty Hellcat stuffed into the engine compartment. That was really all we knew about it at the time, but with the 50th annual Easter Jeep Safari In Moab, Utah just around the corner, Jeep has released more pictures and specs of the concept Trailcat and it has been getting all the buzz.
Jeep used the standard Wrangler as the base for this beast but in order to fit the force fed V8 under the hood they had to extend the wheelbase about 12 inches. Extending the wheelbase can also help with other aspects of off-roading so I’m sure they had other reasons to do this. They’ve also added Fox shocks, 39.5inch BFG Krawler Tires, and Dana 60 axles front and rear to withstand that monstrous 650ft-lbs of torque the Hellcat produces. It appears to not just be a pretty face with a bad ass engine, it sounds like this thing will actually be able to do real work off-road.
To make the driving experience even better, Jeep has gone with the three pedal, 6-speed manual transmission. To make things a little safer, they used a race-style fuel cell, racing style seats, and the 5 point seat belt harness. We’ll note that race-style fuel cells are not street legal so if this ever goes into production, that’ll have to change. Once it’s all said and done, this just appears to be a stripped down Wrangler Unlimited ( the 4 door wrangler) that has been converted to 2 doors, giant tires, beefy axles, and one of the most popular power plants on the market today. Sounds to me like a great time.
Here is a short video of that beautiful sound that will be coming from this One-off Concept by jeep.
