It seems like it wasn’t that long ago when the side by side was something known usually for being a slow workhorse that you’d see groundskeepers or farmers driving around in with a bunch of tools in the back. They even had names like “Mule” and “Ranger” to match their capabilities. Those workhorse style UTV’s do still exist, only now there’s a whole new performance market that’s drastically gaining popularity and shows no signs of slowing down, literally or figuratively.

The prime example of all that progression over the years can be found in one single vehicle right now and that’s the Can-Am Maverick X3. We’ve brought you numerous examples showing the amazing capabilities of the X3 in the Block vs Baldwin Battle Broyale and their one on one battle. This thing is incredible. It could be argued that it’s just a miniature version of something like a Class 1 racing buggy, or even maybe even a Ultra4 racer. If you happen to be unfamiliar with the specs on the X3 you can check out the detail in our previous article.

The YouTuber known as Ostacruiser is a hardcore offroad enthusiast from Canada that has a major thing for Can-Am’s. He’s constantly posting videos of his heavily modified four-wheelers out playing in the deep marshy Canadian countryside. These things are pretty badass looking, we have to admit. They’re lifted with massive tires and have fully enclosed airbox snorkel systems that allow them to stay running even though they’re completely submerged under water and mud. Plus, he usually does major work to the engines that drastically increases the horsepower and with aftermarket exhaust systems they sound mean as hell. Although we should mention that as cool as they may look, they’re kind of a “one-trick pony” for lack of better words. They’re so modified to run in deep mud that riding them in any other terrain wouldn’t be near as fun or usable.

Knowing his love for everything Can-Am, including Ski-Doo snowmobiles in the wintertime, it’s really not that much of a shock that Ostacruiser got his hands on one of the new Maverick X3’s. He probably has plans to do all kinds of crazy mods to it with lift kits, tires, snorkel, and all that other stuff, but in a rare occasion, it currently sits in stock form. He decided to take it out for what he called “break-in miles” which apparently means smashing around on a frozen lake kicking up massive rooster tails in Canadain.

If you’ve never had the opportunity to ride or drive on a frozen lake bed, make it a priority to do it at least once in your lifetime. Especially if you can get your hands on something with a good amount of horsepower like the X3. Even better if there are a few inches of snow on top like in Ostacruiser’s video. That way you have just the slightest bit of traction to help you get going and maybe, more importantly, it provides something for the tires to launch into perfectly shaped rooster tails!

So if you happen to be looking for that last minute gift for yourself, or a new toy for the family, you really can’t go wrong with the Can-Am Maverick X3. Just in case you’re on the fence and still need a little bit of sway one way or the other, sit down and watch the X3 in action.
