There’s no shortage of bizarre world records out there, but usually when an automobile is involved they’re pretty cool. That trend continues when Vesa Kivimaki becomes the fastest man on two wheels by hitting 115mph, except he’s driving a BMW 330 which of course has four wheels! Getting a car up on two wheels isn’t exactly a new thing. If you remember, we talked about the maniacs that do that “sidewalk skiing” where they get the car up on two wheels and then do something ridiculous like take the tire off and put it back on, while still up on two wheels!
Now as crazy as that sounds, they’re usually going at very slow speeds when doing it. But 115mph is obviously not a slow speed at all, especially when up on two wheels that must’ve felt like at least double that! Now what we started to think about was did he get it up on two wheels while up at speed? Or get it on two wheels at a slow speed then accelerate? Turns out its the latter of the two, which almost makes it more impressive, I think.
From what I could tell, Kivimaki hit a ramp at about 30kph which is only 18mph! He then puts the hammer down and rides down a long runway that must’ve been at least a mile or more and then was clocked over 100 meters for the record. His final speed was 186.269kph or 115.742mph. That means he had to gain almost 100mph while on two wheels! The car control it would take to pull this off is beyond comprehension and might even be one of the best displays of driving ability that I’ve ever seen just based on the logistics of it all. Watch this short video where the record is set and tell me if you don’t feel the same way.
