We normally stick to the “anything with a motor” motto here at Moto Networks but when we continue to see these crazy videos of guys throwing themselves down a mountain on nothing but a bicycle between their legs we decided to give credit where it’s due.

Now I should immediately clarify so as not to upset anyone, we are talking abut far more than a “bicycle” here. They are actually custom built downhill bikes that have front and rear suspension systems that’re probably equivalent to a top dollar KING long travel suspension system on a trophy truck, but on a beefed up mountain bike. These things are no joke, they’ve got disc brakes, big fat tires and just about anything else you can think of. In a way, they are just slightly smaller versions of something like a Trails bike but without a motor of course.

Ok now that we’ve got that out of the way, the Red Bull Rampage. Its one of the most hardcore downhill mountain bike freeride events in the world. Every year the best in the business flock to the beautiful red rocks near Zion National Park in Utah. Riders spend weeks preparing the area clearing out landings for ridiculous cliff drops and gap jumps, unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Even as I say the words I know it’s doing no justice. It’s really one of those things that must be seen to really understand the magnitude of whats really going on here. This year’s winner was Brandon Semenuk, a 25-year-old Canadian who had also won back in 2008, and he pulls off a flawless run including a couple back flips. So even though there wasn’t a single horsepower in sight, this still needs to go on the bucket list of every gear head.
