Attention drug dealers, arms dealers, heads of state, Popes, or anyone else who demands the finest in luxury automobiles but doesn’t to compromise their safety when rolling around on public streets. Mercedes wants your business and they’re willing to prove you can have your cake and eat it too. Or in other words, you can be safe from gunfire and roadside bombs with their new $550,000 Maybach S600 Guard Edition. It’s the first civilian vehicle to be certified “VR10 level ballistics protection” and Mercedes recently published photos of one they shot up, you know, just to test it out and prove it.
The Maybach “Guard” is specifically designed to withstand bullets fired from assault rifles. Mercedes built in a layer of protective plating between the inner frame and the outer shell of the car and the whole underbody is fitted with armored plating.. The special edition Maybach also has overlapping protective material in the joints and seams where the armored plates meet to prevent any weak points. The reinforced windows are coated with polycarbonate the prevent splintering from the glass. In addition to ballistic protection, the car is also designed to withstand attacks from explosive devices.
According to Mercedes, the Guard’s protection system should be able to provide the same level of protection from a bomb detonation next to the car as a bomb which detonates underneath the car. To compensate the for the added weight and stresses of the armored duty, Mercedes beefs up the Maybach’s whole suspension and drive line. If all of that is not enough in terms of specs, it has runflat tires, air purification and fire suppression systems fitted to the vehicle.
May your travels through war-torn regions of the world be safe and luxurious.
