Lamborghini has been dropping clues about the new Huracan Performante for the past six months now. And I’ve been getting really excited about it lately but wanted to hold off writing anything until there was some more concrete information. But I couldn’t contain myself any longer because the more I read and hear, the better this thing gets. The most substantial rumor going around about this new Huracan is that it beat the production lap record at the Nurburgring.
Not only are there reports that the Huracan beat the record, but the latest information claims it crushed the record by five seconds. However, it’s the Porsche 918 that currently holds the record at 6 minutes 57 seconds, so I’m not going to believe it until I see it with my own eyes.
The latest teaser provides a glimpse into how the new Huracan might pull off such an amazing achievement. They are calling it the Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva system. The system apparently uses a series of flaps and channels at the front and rear that have the ability to adjust the overall aerodynamics of the car. Lamborghini says it produces less drag to improve acceleration and top speed in the straights, yet provides maximum downforce to keep you planted through the corners.
Luckily it won’t be long now until we have the official word on the Huracan Perfromante. It’s scheduled to debut at the Geneva Auto Show on March 7th. And I can’t recall a time that I’ve been so excited about a car show that’s over 5,000 miles away.
