A small Romanian company known as GHE-O has focused on making specialized vehicles to tackle some of the harshest terrain in the world. One in particular that grabbed my attention was they are referring to as simply, Rescue. It was designed to be used in multiple different applications, all of which with the intentions of providing help in some way, shape, or form.
This thing is massive, it slightly resembles a Hummer H1, at least the back half, but the front end looks similar to what you would see on a class 1 off road buggy, just substantially larger in size. To put it in perspective, the Rescue is two feet wider and three feet longer than the H1, all while weighing in at 500 lbs less than the H1. The Rescue can be customized with many different options depending on the customer request and how the vehicle will be used. The Rescue can be equipped to be the best search and rescue vehicle in the world considering its large enough to carry 11 passengers. Think of it as an ambulance that can go anywhere. It also can be fitted with fire fighting equipment, including a 200 gallon tank of water.
There are a few different engine choices, if you want pure performance you can opt for the 500hp gas powered engine, or if you are looking more for a work horse, there is a 300hp diesel engine that will allow you to crawl up and over just about anything. The tires also play a huge part on the vehicle, I couldn’t find the exact tire size but it’s obvious they are not your average tire. If they aren’t the definition of a “balloon tire” then I’m not sure what is. You can even take it up a notch by adding snowmobile like tracks to the rear tires. If the snow is really deep you can install the optional pneumatic pillows that attach to the wheels and blow up on request giving superior “floating” capabilities. This also applies to both water and mud as well.
There hasn’t been official pricing released but its said to be right around $150,000 depending on what option boxes are checked. I for one would love to see these become standard for both search and rescue as well as a vehicle to help battle these crazy wild fires that are out of control. One thing is for sure though, GHE-O has built one bad ass rig and I bet it is just a blast to drive.
