DRIVETRIBE’s editor, Jethro Bovingdon, recently had the chance of experiencing something that most gearheads have fantasized about for over a year now. He had the pleasure of feeling the brutal acceleration that comes into play when the Bugatti Chiron unleashes all 1500hp, and as you can imagine the results are nothing short of spectacular. But before you start sending Jethro jealous hate mail, I should mention that he only experienced this amazing feeling from the passenger seat.
Behind the wheel sat Loris Bicocchi, who might have one of the best jobs in the world. He’s currently the test driver for Bugatti, although he’s earned the nickname “The” supercar test driver because he’s also worked with most major players in this niche market such as Pagani, Koenigsegg, and Lamborghini. Apparently, Biocchi also played a major part in the research and development of the Chiron and helped make sure that it was focused more on being a driver’s car versus the company’s previous models. As I’ve mentioned before, the Chiron sounds absolutely fantastic and significantly better than the Veyron it replaces.
While the exact performance specs of the Chiron have not been confirmed, all reports indicate that it should accelerate from 0-60 in less than 2.5 seconds, 0-124mph in less than 6.5 seconds, and 0-186mph in under 13.6. If we go ahead and assume those are the actual numbers that’ll come from the $2.5 million hypercar, that would be a full second quicker to 186mph than the Veyron Super Sport, 2.9 seconds faster than the McLaren P1, and a shockingly full 6.3 seconds faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder.
Before going for a ride in the latest hypercar from Bugatti, Jethro was lucky enough to take the Chiron predecessor, the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, out for one final canyon cruise. OK, so maybe some jealousy might be warranted.
