I’m not one to typically lust over high priced supercars with interiors that cost more than a house. Yet Pagani manages to always wrap me in like a boa around a mouse. The standard million dollar Huayra was already luscious, but the ‘Pacchetto Tempesta’ is so good I can’t believe it isn’t standard.
That’s right, even when buying a car that costs 2-million dollars there is still room for the upsell. Pagani knows nothing about making a single version of any car. Instead, they offer limited run ‘dynamic packages’ for each model they have built. That is why we have seen a multitude of Zonda’s, and now the Huayra is on the same track. There has already been something like 8 variations of Pagani’s kingpin, and there are no signs of them stopping now. But for some reason the ‘Pacchetto Tempesta’ calls to me like a like a bee to honey.
For starters, the package costs a monstrous $190,000 USD over the already astronomical sticker price. For that alone, you could have a brand new GT3, and an extra $40,000 left over for your subsequent speeding tickets. So for GT3 money what could Pagani possibly pack into the Huayra to make it so interesting? For starters, it’s not really what, but who that makes the difference. See the ‘Tempesta’ has had a new exterior construction built exclusively by Dallara, one of the worlds best aero engineering companies. Indycar, Formula 3 and Formula E all use Dallara chassis. It’s a company that makes a monopoly out of any series they enter, so having them in on your build is nothing but a good thing.
The new splitters and underbody design give the ‘Tempesta’ a drastically different aero profile. So much so that Pagani had to have custom 4-way Öhlins shocks built specifically for this car. Custom Öhlins is the sure way to any moto junkies heart. Because Pagani knows a thing or two about symmetry they also equipped the ‘Tempesta’ with a new set of kicks. Gone are the old wheels, replaced by a set of staggard 20 and 21-inch forged wheels. While they are bigger in dimension, they come in light on the scale thanks to their aeronautic grade aluminum construction. And of course, they sport an entirely new design, because everything must be original.
While all of that is impressive, no doubt, there was still room for upgrades in that massive accessories budget. If you have the best looking Huayra you must have the best sounding one. To make that a reality Pagani fitted the ‘Tempesta’ with an all new hand-welded exhaust system, made exclusively from titanium. Weighing a svelte 16lbs total, the exhaust saves you a whopping 7lbs over the base model, but more than that this exhaust transforms the incredible Turbo AMG V12 into the single greatest exhaust note to ever come from Pagani.
Now here is the real kicker. Pagani sold out of these monsters light years ago. Because of Pagani’s high profile designs, they tend to sell faster than they can be reported on. Think of it as the ultimate by-product of success. But now, for a limited time, you could buy your very own ‘Pacchetto Tempesta.’ For sale at this years Monterey Car Week. Monterey hosts a high-end car show of sorts every year, and along with that comes one of the highest grossing auctions in the country. It seems only fitting to see an exquisite car like the ‘Pacchetto Tempesta’ grace the stage at Monterey. And lucky for you, it will only set you back a cool 2.8-million US Dollars. Chump change, right?
