When collectively more than 50,000hp worth of mud racing vehicles get together in one location it’s safe to assume it’s going to be an epic weekend. And that’s exactly what happened this last weekend at Tulsa Raceway Park for the “Mud Down in T-Town” event. Some of the top mega trucks, mud bog drag racers, and dirt drag racers put on quite the show for thousands of hardcore off-road enthusiasts. And as if that wasn’t cool enough, the entire two-day event was put on free of charge! There were multiple different races with multiple different vehicles, and even though it was a free show there was more than $28,000 worth of prize money up for grabs.
It wasn’t just a weekend mud fest either, there was fun for the whole family. Some of the many events included concerts, games for the kids, and plenty of adult beverages. After all it was a mud fest. However, the obvious stars of the show were the incredibly powerful machines. The mega trucks were definitely a crowd favorite because not only are they loud, and fast as hell, but thanks to beefed up suspension they’re also high flying. The dirt drags, which is technically called “fast track,” were fun to watch too. They are more or less drag cars and even some dragsters that have a massive paddle tire on the back clawing for traction. And when you have engines that produce well into the 4-digit range of horsepower and combine that with the giant lugs on the tires, that makes for some incredible rooster tails.
